Mechanics Update: The Beast’s Movement

As of version 0.5, the Beast can now move both orthogonally and diagonally.

Rather than mirroring the bishop in chess, the Beast now moves more like the queen.

Glatisant is coming to Kickstarter next month! A host of gameplay and quality of life improvements like this were implemented during the editing process to prepare it for launch. Check out everything the game has to offer, including enamel pins for the Beast and the Knight, on our Kickstarter page here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/graftbound/glatisant-two-player-arthurian-t...

This critical change to the Beast’s movement means some win conditions are no longer impossible. The previous rule, moving the Beast diagonally while the Knight moves orthogonally, meant the Beast could reach in one move cards that would take the Knight two moves to reach. The separation stressed the difference between the two characters and gave the Beast a slight advantage in moving across the spread. However, it also meant that the Beast could only access half the cards in the spread, much like a bishop. To use all win conditions in the book, the Beast must be able to access all cards.

You can implement this change by allowing your Beast to move to any card adjacent to the card they’re on. If you’re playing with the Ashcan version we released at Gen Con, your text will reflect this change already. You can check the version number of your copy of Glatisant on the cover page, and re-download the digital files to stay up to date.
